WEBSITE POLICY

Privacy policy

Effective September 6, 2026

This policy explains how Umlaut Letters, published by Sören Schmidt, handles information when you use the website or contact the publisher. The website is operated from the United States. Sören Schmidt is responsible for the personal information processed for this website.

Text in the character tools

The character tools run in your browser. The text you compose and the input you paste into the character identifier are processed locally, not uploaded by these tools. If you allow analytics, copying a predefined character button can record that character as described below. The text remains in the current page session and is lost when you reload or close it. Copying places your chosen text on your device’s clipboard.

The tools do not read your existing clipboard contents. What happens after you paste text into another website or app is governed by that service.

Technical and hosting information

When you request a page, the hosting infrastructure receives technical information needed to serve it, which may include your IP address, request time, browser information, and the requested URL. Hosting and security providers may process this information to deliver pages, detect abuse, and maintain the service.

Our production hosting provider is Cloudflare. Its handling of information is described in the Cloudflare privacy policy.

Cookies, analytics, and advertising

Umlaut Letters uses Google Analytics to understand visits and how people use the website. It may process visited pages, approximate location, device and browser details, referring pages, and interaction events. Google Analytics may use cookies or similar browser technologies for measurement.

Analytics loads when you visit the website; we do not currently display an on-site consent banner or privacy-settings control. You can use browser settings or extensions to restrict cookies and analytics requests. The character tools do not depend on analytics to function.

Our Google Analytics measurement ID is G-431Y0H3BMF. Google describes its data practices in the Google Privacy Policy. Events can record a character copied from a predefined button, page type, device-guide selections, selected filters, and successful tool use. Search events record query length, not search text. The tools do not upload the text you compose, search for, or paste into the character identifier. Google Signals and advertising personalization are disabled in this integration.

The website does not currently display third-party advertising. Advertising may be introduced later, and this policy will be updated before associated data practices are enabled.

Messages you send

If you use the contact form or send an email, the message contains your name, email address, and other information you choose to include. The form passes this information through Cloudflare and delivers it to the publisher's verified email destination. It is used to respond, investigate an issue, or keep a record of the correspondence. Avoid including sensitive personal information.

Correspondence is kept only as long as needed for those purposes or to meet an applicable obligation. You may ask about or request deletion of your correspondence using the contact address below.

Service providers, retention, and international processing

We use hosting, security, analytics, and email providers to deliver the website, understand its use, and respond to messages. These providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. Their policies explain their safeguards and processing practices.

We do not sell personal information or currently use it for personalized advertising. Information may be disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect the service, or address fraud or security threats.

Tool drafts are not retained by the website after the page session. Infrastructure and analytics records follow the relevant service configuration and operational requirements; you can ask the publisher about information associated with your visit or correspondence. Security measures reduce risk but cannot guarantee that every transmission or storage system is completely secure.

Children’s privacy

The website is a general-audience reference and does not offer child accounts or ask children to submit personal information. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information, contact the publisher so the information can be reviewed and removed where appropriate.

External links

Reference links take you to websites operated by others. Those websites have their own privacy practices. Clicking a reference link does not send them the text in our composer.

Your choices and questions

You can choose whether to use clipboard buttons and whether to send an email. Your browser controls its clipboard permissions. You can also use browser settings or extensions to restrict cookies and analytics requests. For questions about information associated with your contact messages, email [email protected].

Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent where processing relies on it, or complain to a privacy regulator. Contact the publisher to make a request. We may need proportionate information to verify your identity, and exceptions may apply where records must be retained by law.

Changes to this policy

We will revise this page when our data practices change and update the effective date to reflect a substantive revision.
