## How to type n with accent

### Use the numeric keypad

Turn Num Lock on. Hold Alt, enter `0241` on the numeric keypad, and release Alt to produce ñ.

Use the numeric keypad for listed Alt codes, not the number row. A listed code may depend on Windows and the active character set.

### Use an accent key or menu

On the US or ABC layout, press Option + N, release, and type N for ñ. The press-and-hold menu may also offer ñ and ń. For ň, ņ, and dotted forms, use Character Viewer or copy the required character from this page.

Shortcuts described here assume the US or ABC input layout. Another selected layout can assign different keys.

### Hold the base letter

Touch and hold N on the on-screen keyboard. Keep your finger down, slide to the character you need, and release. Switch to uppercase before holding the key for a capital letter.

The available characters depend on your keyboard and enabled languages. Add a relevant language keyboard if the required form does not appear.

### Convert a code or use dead keys

In Microsoft Word for Windows, type a hexadecimal value without `U+`, then press Alt + X. For example, type `00F1` and convert it to ñ. Select only the code before converting if another letter or number comes immediately before it.

The US-International layout can produce ñ with the tilde dead key followed by N and ń with the apostrophe dead key followed by N. Other forms depend on the selected language layout. In Word, the Unicode values in the table work consistently with Alt+X.

## Using n with accent correctly

Spanish ñ is a separate alphabet letter called eñe. Polish ń represents a different sound from plain n. Czech and Slovak use ň, while Latvian uses ņ. Dotted and underlined N forms appear mainly in particular orthographies or transliteration systems.
