## How to type g with accent

### Use Character Map or Unicode

ğ has no dependable legacy Alt sequence across ordinary Windows configurations. Copy it, use Character Map, enable a language keyboard, or enter its Unicode value in Microsoft Word.

Use the numeric keypad for listed Alt codes, not the number row. A listed code may depend on Windows and the active character set.

### Use an accent key or menu

The standard ABC layout does not offer a single direct shortcut for every accented G. Hold G to check the accent menu, use Character Viewer, or enable the relevant language input source. A Turkish, Esperanto, Maltese, or Latvian layout is more practical for repeated writing.

Shortcuts described here assume the US or ABC input layout. Another selected layout can assign different keys.

### Hold the base letter

Touch and hold G on the on-screen keyboard. Keep your finger down, slide to the character you need, and release. Switch to uppercase before holding the key for a capital letter.

The available characters depend on your keyboard and enabled languages. Add a relevant language keyboard if the required form does not appear.

### Convert a code or use dead keys

In Microsoft Word for Windows, type a hexadecimal value without `U+`, then press Alt + X. For example, type `011F` and convert it to ğ. Select only the code before converting if another letter or number comes immediately before it.

## Using g with accent correctly

Turkish and Azerbaijani use ğ, Esperanto uses ĝ, Maltese uses ġ, and Latvian uses ģ. G with caron, acute, or macron appears in more specialized orthographies and transcription systems.

The lowercase Latvian ģ is commonly drawn with a comma-like mark above the letter because a descender leaves little space below. Unicode still names the precomposed character Latin small letter G with cedilla. Copy the encoded letter rather than replacing it with a visually improvised mark.

G with dot above and G with breve can look similar at small sizes, but Ġ and Ğ are different characters. Preserve uppercase marks as well: the uppercase partner of ğ is Ğ, and the uppercase partner of ġ is Ġ.
