## How to type d with accent

### Use Character Map or Unicode

ď has no dependable legacy Alt sequence across ordinary Windows configurations. Copy it, use Character Map, enable a language keyboard, or enter its Unicode value in Microsoft Word.

Use the numeric keypad for listed Alt codes, not the number row. A listed code may depend on Windows and the active character set.

### Use an accent key or menu

The standard US or ABC accent menu may not offer every D form. Use Character Viewer, add a Czech or Slovak input source for ď, or copy the required character from this page.

### Hold the base letter

Touch and hold D on the on-screen keyboard. Keep your finger down, slide to the character you need, and release. Switch to uppercase before holding the key for a capital letter.

## Using d with accent correctly

Czech and Slovak use ď as an alphabet letter. D with dot below is widely encountered in transliteration of Indic scripts, while D with line below and other marked forms serve more specialized writing systems.

The lowercase caron on ď is often drawn like a small apostrophe beside the letter rather than a full wedge above it. That is a normal glyph design, not a different character.
