## How to type c with accent

### Use the numeric keypad

Turn Num Lock on. Hold Alt, enter `0231` on the numeric keypad, and release Alt to produce ç.

Use the numeric keypad for listed Alt codes, not the number row. A listed code may depend on Windows and the active character set.

### Use an accent key or menu

On the US or ABC layout, press Option + C for ç. Use the accent menu when it offers another C form, or open Character Viewer for ć, ĉ, č, ċ, and combined forms. A language-specific keyboard can be faster for regular writing.

Shortcuts described here assume the US or ABC input layout. Another selected layout can assign different keys.

### Hold the base letter

Touch and hold C on the on-screen keyboard. Keep your finger down, slide to the character you need, and release. Switch to uppercase before holding the key for a capital letter.

The available characters depend on your keyboard and enabled languages. Add a relevant language keyboard if the required form does not appear.

### Convert a code or use dead keys

In Microsoft Word for Windows, type a hexadecimal value without `U+`, then press Alt + X. For example, type `00E7` and convert it to ç. Select only the code before converting if another letter or number comes immediately before it.

A US-International layout can produce ç and ć with dead-key sequences supported by that layout. Polish, Czech, Croatian, Turkish, Maltese, and Esperanto layouts provide methods suited to their alphabets. In Word, enter the hexadecimal Unicode value and press Alt+X.

## Using c with accent correctly

French and Portuguese use ç, Polish uses ć, Esperanto uses ĉ, Czech and several South Slavic languages use č, and Maltese uses ċ. These letters may represent different sounds and are never generic decorative versions of C.
